Where has Captain Marvel been throughout all the Avengers movies? Carol Danvers isn’t set to debut in the MCU until next March’s Captain Marvel, but in a surprising twist that origin story will be set in the 1990s. This means Carol gained her phenomenal powers at least a decade before Tony Stark suited up as Iron Man. Why wasn’t she part of Nick Fury’s original Avengers team?
Avengers: Infinity War‘s post-credits scene saw Nick Fury and Maria Hill reel as people all over the world vanished – including, ultimately, themselves. Before he turned to dust, though, Fury was able to use a modified pager to send a signal. The camera focused in on the screen, and the final image was of Captain Marvel’s logo. Clearly, Fury had just sent out a cosmic SOS, bringing Captain Marvel into the fight for Avengers 4.
That brief scene complicates things, not simplifies them, however. Wherever Carol Danvers has been for the last 20 years, Fury has actually had the means to reach out to her. What’s more, that scene also suggests that Carol could also return under her own power. All Fury ever needed to do was sent out a signal. So, what are the options? Where could Captain Marvel have been all these years?
